Live Free Fund: Serena’s Functional Wellness Journey

WPR has announced the latest recipient of the Live Free Fund, the initiative designed to make life-enriching experiences and opportunities available to the WPR team.

This year’s winner is Serena Anslow, senior social media manager, who will be embarking on a qualification in functional wellness. Following a diagnosis of a brain abnormality called cerebellar tonsillar ectopia, Serena has taken the positive step of identifying ways to proactively support her health and wellbeing in the long term.

Serena said: “My experiences over the last few years have made me realise just how much the mind influences the body and how quickly worries can turn into physical struggles. I hope this course will be life-changing, giving me the confidence to care for myself so that I don’t miss out on future experiences.”

The course, which will take 18 to 24 months to complete, will explore a variety of health-related factors from stress and hormones to nutrition and the immune system. Serena’s goal is that, as well as learning how to manage her own symptoms, she will also gain knowledge she can share with friends, family and the WPR team.

The Live Free Fund was established in memory of cherished former colleague Zara Free, as a way of keeping Zara’s spirit of curiosity and zest for life flourishing at WPR. Each year, any member of the WPR team can apply for funding to do something that will broaden their horizons or allow them to grow as an individual, with Zara’s family selecting the winner or winners. When choosing this year’s winner, Zara’s family loved that Serena wanted to study for this qualification both to support her own health journey and to share what she learns with others.
