Close up of PR Internships & Apprenticeships Award 2023

Next Gen Named Best Internship Programme

WPR’s Next Gen learning and insight programme has been named the best internship programme of the year at the PRCA’s PR Internships and Apprenticeships Awards 2023.

Announcing the winners, the judges praised Next Gen’s structure, commitment to DEI and emphasis on ensuring that people who undertake a placement have a positive experience.

The awards are designed to recognise organisations that are championing young talent by offering valuable opportunities to develop sought-after skills, building on the industry body’s commitment to making sure that paid, meaningful internships are accessible to all.

WPR managing director Jane Ainsworth said: “We’ve always been passionate about creating opportunities for people to gain skills and succeed in our brilliant industry – in fact, half of our team joined as juniors or interns.

“Since we launched Next Gen, the response has been fantastic, and it’s been especially rewarding to see the increased diversity of people exploring PR and social media for their future careers. I’m so proud of the work our team has done to create this programme, and of the care and expertise they invest in the young people who spend time with us.”

WPR’s Next Gen is a structured learning and insight programme designed to inspire the next generation of comms professionals and broaden the pool of talent joining both WPR and the wider industry.

Having seen a significant increase in applications over the past year, and with places now consistently booked up eight months in advance, WPR is hoping to make Next Gen available to even more people in the future.
