Helping Co-op Funeralcare Break Taboos

Co-op Funeralcare, the UK’s largest funeral provider, has appointed WPR to support its in-house PR team with the delivery of regional PR activity.

WPR will be providing support across Co-op’s estate of 800 funeral homes, identifying and developing PR stories to increase brand awareness and visibility, as well as tailoring core PR campaigns for regional promotion.

Jane Ainsworth, managing director of WPR, said: “Co-op Funeralcare works with people at some of life’s most difficult moments and we were struck by the care they apply to ensuring every funeral is as different and unique as the person at the heart of it.

“As an organisation known for its ethical and compassionate approach, we know Co-op Funeralcare has stories to share that will resonate with people, starting some powerful and important conversations.”

Lauren Pogson, senior PR lead for the Co-op, said: “We were looking for an agency that could act as an extension to our in-house PR team. The WPR team impressed us with how they grasped the challenge of breaking the taboo around talking about funeral planning in a sensitive and engaging way, coupled with their proven track record in developing creative ideas and amplifying them at regional and hyperlocal levels.”

Co-op Funeralcare is the one of several significant new client wins for the Birmingham PR agency in recent months, including Hollywood Bowl and Puttstars.
